As a new hearing aid user, it's normal to feel overwhelmed and worried you will not remember all the details discussed with your audiologist. At The Ear Place we are on hand to support you through your journey with any queries or reassurances you may need.

To ensure you get the most out of your new hearing aids, we have listed some handy and helpful tips that you can refer to whenever you need!

How to Properly Insert Hearing Aids

How you insert your hearing aids will impact how well you hear through them and how comfortable they feel. Over time if inserted correctly you will forget you are even wearing them!  Your Audiologist will take you through how to fit them and guide you as you fit them yourself ensuring you feel confident to do this at home.  If you encounter any challenges, do not hesitate to consult your audiologist for guidance.

Adjusting to Wearing Hearing Aids

Hearing aids are not just for social occasions or busy noisy situations, they should be worn throughout the day. Adjusting to wearing them full-time may take some time, but your brain needs to adapt to the new sounds around you. You'll reap maximum benefits if you wear your hearing aids from the moment you wake up until you sleep. Inadequate usage can hamper the adjustment process. Your audiologist will set up your hearing aids based on your individual requirements in hearing loss and listening needs, making them unique to you.

How to Maintain Your Hearing Aids

We recommend getting into a routine with regards to the cleaning of your hearing aids. Wiping over your hearing aids daily before bed is a good habit to get in. Your Audiologist will show you how to clean your hearing aids to remove any wax and debris and provide you with the tools you need to do this at home. Your audiologist is also available to demonstrate the cleaning process as often as needed until you feel comfortable doing it independently.

The Importance of Regular Hearing Aid Check-ups

Hearing aids need periodic adjustments according to changes in hearing loss and an individual’s requirements. Scheduling a yearly hearing assessment and hearing aid check ensures that your hearing aids are programmed to your requirements, which may have changed since your previous hearing assessment. These appointments also provide a platform for discussing any concerns or questions about your hearing aids. Your audiologist is dedicated to supporting you throughout your journey and making the adjustment process seamless!

Remember, it’s important to give your new hearing aids patience, and time, let your brain adapt to the change. The initial adjustment period may pose some challenges, but by following the above guidance, you are on your way to becoming a successful hearing aid user!
